Sizergh

Beautiful medieval house with rich gardens and estate. This imposing house stands proudly at the gateway to the Lake District and has been home to the Strickland family for more than 800 years. There’s plenty to explore on the 1,600-acre estate, including wetland, woodland and orchards – look out for fritillary butterflies, deer and rare hawfinches. If you’d rather relax in gardens, wander through the orchards, rock garden or stumpery or stroll along the herbaceous border and fruit wall – there's something new to see in every season.

Levens Hall

Located at the gateway to the Lake District National Park, five miles south of Kendal in Cumbria, Levens Hall has grown from a stark, imposing Pele Tower built c1250-1300, into a warm and welcoming family home.  We invite you to marvel at this beautiful privately-owned house and gardens, home to the world's oldest topiary gardens and centre of a thriving 9,500-acre agricultural estate which provides much of the produce for our cafe, Levens Kitchen .

Whether you are visiting as an individual, a couple, a family or part of a group, you will find plenty to do and see here.

Levens Deer Park

Open all year round, the marked public footpaths that make their way through privately owned Levens Deer Park reveal some of the most beautiful and timeless scenery in the country – a haven for wildlife and a breath of peace and tranquillity in a busy world. To avoid disturbing either, we ask that visitors stay on the footpaths and that dogs are kept on a lead at all times.

Landscaped some 300 years ago at the same time as the gardens, Levens Deer Park  is home to a herd of black fallow deer, and a herd of rare-breed Bagot goats. With their distinctive white coats, black faces and large curved horns, the goats are believed to be Britain’s oldest breed of goat with a documented ancestry.

Levens Deer Park is located opposite the main entrance to Levens Hall and can be accessed on either side of Levens Bridge.

Kendal Castle

Kendal Castle, probably late 12th Century, is now a ruin, but worth exploring. From here you can get brilliant views over the town. At Kendal Museum is an exhibition telling the story of the Castle, its people , and the life of the town. There are displays showing medieval objects, reconstructions of the Castle, computer displays and there are various activities such as coin rubbing.

The Castle was built in the early 1200’s as the home of the barons of Kendal. They had a big influence on the development of Kendal. The Parr family is the best known of the baronial families, the most famous member being Katherine Parr, the sixth and last Queen of Henry VIII.
